Astray but not Lost

It's in my blood,
my heart, my mind.
will not succumb
to ties and binds
of ancestry left far behind
will not deny
or compromise
inside the name or where it lies
will not cater, coddle
or croon these goons
fed by spoon
distorted views
refuse to lose
the path I choose
untainted by their guilt and gloom
unfazed by undereducated,
fools overtly opinionated
facing wayward from their hatred
and every truth they have negated
as I still try to reside
the depths they go grow far and wide
on avenues of wit and wise
the wool is not pulled to my eyes

I may have been led astray
but know where my intentions lay.

Come and Go

although it may not matter now
the way I felt
or wondered how
some things thought easy to obtain
are not the same to keep or maintain
forgotten faces
unremembered voices
and reasons why we made those choices
loss of reason
and withered will
can bring ones world to a stand still
remainders linger
mental pictures
grow stranger and harder to figure
through hard times
and harder liquor
they burn quicker
than oil and wicker
and as history blazes away
reflecting what we wish would stay
it illuminates a brand new day
where we can leave behind the weight
the things that are not made to last
are often better in our past
